Background
Volvo Construction Equipment has started its mass production process for its A30 Electric and A40 Electric haulers which makes the company the first organization to produce electric machines at this size for commercial sale.
This development is an important step towards cleaner construction equipment and also strengthens the company’s expertise in industrial technology. The electric haulers which debuted at Bauma 2025, have generated significant customer interest because the mining and quarrying industry increasingly demands zero-emission solutions.
Production is taking place at the company’s Braås facility in Sweden, the original site where the first articulated hauler, “Gravel Charlie,” was introduced in 1966. The move not only reflects the historical abilities in engineering of the company, but also the new and sustainable technology orientation.
The A30 Electric and A40 Electric offer payload capacities of 29 tonnes and 39 tonnes, making them among the largest electric machines in the company’s portfolio. The system operates at peak performance for six hours after its single battery charge.
Company leadership stated that the start of serial production shows that electric solutions are now ready for heavy-duty industrial applications. They added that the machines will help reduce emissions while also offering long-term cost benefits.
The first units will be delivered to customers in the UK and Norway, with further deliveries planned across Europe in the second half of the year.
