Background-
Qatar Chamber highlighted the growing role of the private sector in environmental sustainability at the Arab Conference on Promoting Environmental Sustainability in Societies 2026, held in Qatar.
The conference was held in collaboration with a number of regional and international bodies, among them the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, the University of Doha for Science and Technology, the Federation of Arab Chambers and the UNIDO Investment and Technology Promotion Programme.
The event brought together experts, policymakers and business leaders to discuss environmental standards, sustainable development, ecosystem protection and green partnerships across Arab societies.
Speaking during the opening session, Acting General Manager of Qatar Chamber Ali Bu Sherbak Al Mansori said environmental sustainability has become a global priority because of its direct impact on current and future generations. He noted that environmental challenges require joint action from governments, businesses and society to develop innovative solutions that support economic growth while protecting natural resources.
Al Mansori said Qatar continues to place sustainability at the centre of its national development strategy through economic diversification, efficient resource management and investment in clean energy and advanced technologies.
He also stressed that the private sector plays an important role in reducing environmental impact through responsible business practices, compliance with international standards and the adoption of innovative technologies.
The conference included sessions on environmental governance, corporate sustainability policies, green technologies and social responsibility partnerships within Arab companies and institutions.
