Background

Space42, a UAE-based AI-powered SpaceTech company, has partnered with Microsoft to launch the country’s first Sovereign Mobility Cloud, built on Core42’s Sovereign Public Cloud using Microsoft Azure. Announced at the Dubai World Congress (DWC), the platform is designed to speed up autonomous mobility solutions while ensuring all data stays securely in the UAE and complies with national regulations.

Dr. Fan Zhu, Senior VP of Autonomous Mobility at Space42, said the initiative sets a global standard for secure and trusted mobility platforms. Sherif Tawfik, Chief Partnership Officer for AI & Cloud Sovereignty at Microsoft, added that the platform combines data residency, compliance, and advanced cloud capabilities to support autonomous systems with high security and trust.

The cloud platform provides trusted mobility data and autonomous infrastructure applications, and it has HD mapping, telematics, and fleet management applications, as well as traffic monitoring and digital twins. The upcoming plans include pilot projects, regulatory sandboxes, and test hubs with UAE transport authorities, along with collaborations with global automotive, tech, and academic partners.

Space42 will be in charge of application deployment, regulatory engagement, and commercial rollouts. Microsoft and Core42 will provide the sovereign-enabled cloud foundation, AI platforms, data governance, and technical expertise to support the ecosystem.

Since 2021, the TXAI service of Space42 has covered approximately 600,000 km of autonomous driving and 20,000 passenger trips safely. The company operates in major locations in the UAE, laying the groundwork for intelligent mobility, making Abu Dhabi a major international center of transport AI implementation.
